The revolutionary flag of Spetses.

Greece spent several centuries under Turkish occupation and when the Revolution against this domination started in 1821, the wealthy seafarers of Spetses were right at the forefront of the campaign.

There are various versions of this flag but this is perhaps the most commonly seen. The neighbouring island of Hydra has it's own variation on this. Symbols of Greece and Christianity stand triumphantly over the fallen crescent of Islam.

The slogan reads 'FREEDOM OR DEATH'. Perhaps a take on Patrick Henry's 'Liberty or Death' speech of 1775 that helped to spur the US revolution against the British.
