The Greek people have a long tradition as sailors and indeed, many parts of the country could only be reached by sea until just a few years ago.

On land, the ancestors of my friend here provided the backbone of the transport industry!

There are one or two places in Greece, notably Hydra, where donkeys and mules are still working beasts. On Spetses, most of the donkeys have been displaced by big 4 wheel beasts with names like Nissan or Toyota.

This guy is one of the last donkeys working on the island although you can still find many of his larger cousins pulling the Horse Carriages along the seafront in the summer
